Citrus Perfumes

Citrus perfumes, a symphony of a thousand notes

The large category of citrus perfumes, also known as hesperidium to recall the mythological garden guarded by the Hesperides nymphs, is made up of a universe of very different scents, all united by the sensation of freshness and vitality that they manage to instil. For example, among the notes belonging to this varied olfactory family, the nuances of orange stand out due to their softness and hint of sweetness, with lemon for its distinctive exuberance, and tangerine, which is usually associated with festivities and Christmas, for a more discreet effervescence; and again grapefruit, with its slightly bitter and at times woody touches, or bergamot with its vibrant energy. Citrus tones, which are usually characterised by their great volatility, are among the top notes in the olfactory pyramid of a fragrance, as they are first to reach your nose and also first to leave your skin, after giving it an immediate sensation of freshness. To create a lingering citrus scent, hesperidium top notes are often combined with middle notes of wild flowers and ripe fruits, and plant-based notes such as woods, musks and resins.

Breathe in the Mediterranean summer with citrus perfumes

A cloud of fruity, pleasantly energising freshness, to be breathed deeply in nature, under a bright sun: these are the sensations released by the notes of citrus perfumes, a portrait of a typical Mediterranean summer. Our expert perfumers have encapsulated these images in a collection of fragrances, evoked by highly evocative olfactory compositions that draw on the natural landscapes that inspired their creation. It is the gardens of the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago with their sun-kissed orange and bergamot trees, the enchanting lemon groves overlooking the sea, hidden in the greenery of ancient dwellings, the rows of cedar trees with their unmistakably wild and vibrant aroma that are the muse for citrus perfumes, which take on a more feminine or masculine tone depending on the accent given to the composition. In the citrus perfume collection by Acqua dell’Elba, hesperidium notes are always accompanied by an interweaving of nuances reminiscent of the sea, the beaches and the dense, scented vegetation: these pure and beautiful details with lively vitality are what make Mediterranean landscapes unique.
