Our Story

Our family business was founded on the Island of Elba, an island in the Mediterranean Sea, in the heart of the Tuscan Archipelago in Italy. Three of us – Fabio, Marco and Chiara – founded it about 25 years ago in Marciana Marina, where we were born and where we still live. We were in our early thirties, driven by a love for the island where we were born and a common passion for perfumes and the sea.

After a boat trip, with the colours of the sea and sky still in view, ambling along paths scented with myrtle and rosemary between the rocks and wild shrubs, we told ourselves that we wanted to feel like this every day: relaxed, happy in ourselves and with others, living at one with nature. We imagined we could enclose in a bottle all that beauty that filled our hearts with gratitude and give it to people: the essence of the sea.

The idea of a bottle containing the essence of the sea came to us from the sea itself. More than thirty years earlier – in 1967 – in the northern part of the Island of Elba (the Gulf of Procchio), a sea storm had uncovered the remains of the hull of a small Roman ship with a square sail, inside which, among other things, was the precious stopper of a perfume bottle.

So, remembering that event and inspired by it, we sketched the simple lines of the ancient sailing ship, imagined a label and designed our emblem.

Then, looking around, inspired by the amazing palette of nature, a pristine colour appeared, instilling serenity and optimism, capable of bestowing all the freshness of the Island of Elba in an instant.

It was the shade of the sea, diluted by the brightness and blues of the sky, the multi-coloured depths of the seabed, the whiteness of the pebbles and sand, the greens of the Mediterranean maquis and the flowering broom. That colour would become our flag.

Realising the dream, making the idea concrete and setting up the company was not easy. Creating a perfume company out of nothing on a rock in the Mediterranean Sea seemed like an impossible feat. We started at the end of 2000, when we opened our small workshop in Marciana Marina, a stone’s throw from the sea, with a store for the sale of perfumes.

Since then, we have continued to grow with more than 30 single-brand stores in Italy and a distribution network of over 1,000 selected perfumeries in Europe and beyond.

As an Italian family business, an expression of our local culture and traditional craftsmanship, we have grown while remaining true to ourselves in a global market. We have persevered to tackle many challenges in order to continue producing on an island. We have put human relationships and the environment at the heart of everything we do. With conviction, we have remained on the Island of Elba, loving, valuing and respecting our people and our local area.

And over the years, we have taken direct responsibility and undertaken concrete actions to make our company as well as our island sustainable according to structured and shared programmes. We want to continue working in this way, better and better, to carry on giving beauty to everyone.
